A standard homeowners insurance policy will not cover earthquakes. If you live in an earthquake prone area you may want to buy additional insurance for earthquake protection.
But even in areas where earthquakes are not common it is still a good idea to prepare for the possibility of an earthquake. Earthquakes have occurred in 39 states and all 50 states have sustained some earthquake damage.
